Request Your Byway Assessment Tool

Byways and byway organizations come in all types and sizes with a variety of challenging responsibilities and opportunities. To help evaluate your needs and priorities and aid you in organizational development, America’s Byways Resource Center is announcing a new Byway Assessment service (more information follows below).

A key part of this service is a Byway Assessment tool. The tool is specifically intended for byways and the organizations that implement byway efforts and activities. However, state and tribal byway coordinators may also find the tool useful when working with the byways within their jurisdictions.

The Byway Assessment tool is only the first step in a beneficial consultative process that will follow. Once you have filled out the Assessment, the Resource Center will provide you with specific results and one-on-one diagnostic services. This service will help you target improvement areas for your organization.

This is a pilot project. The Byway Assessment tool and consultative services will only be available for a short time. Please request the Assessment tool by January 27, 2012; complete and return the Assessment tool to the Resource Center by February 28 to ensure you are able to receive the one-on-one personal assistance in the areas you need.

Complete this request form and e-mail it to the Resource Center by clicking the Submit Request button below.

About The Byway Assessment Tool

The Assessment Categories
The Byway Assessment tool from America’s Byways Resource Center is organized around topics of fundamental importance—where your knowledge, skills and abilities can make a great difference in the health, strength and sustainability of your organization. The selection of these categories was based on research from an America’s Byways survey conducted this past spring and conversations with many byway representatives.

The tool will help you create useful benchmarks (i.e., where you are now) and direction (i.e., where you want to take your organization). The topics are:

  • Organizational Capacity and Adaptability
  • Finance and Fundraising
  • Outreach, Partnerships and Advocacy
  • Byway Branding and Marketing
  • Byway Visitor Experience
  • Documenting Byway Impact

How The Tool Works
Once requested (by submitting the information above), you will receive an assessment document to fill out electronically. Complete this at your own pace; it should take approximately 60-90 minutes to fill out. No information will be lost if you close the document and come back to it later. This can be done by a single individual (i.e., the byway leader) or several people (i.e., your byway board). When the document has been completed, hit the “Send Results to the Resource Center” button found at the end of the document. Please return the Byway Assessment tool to the Resource Center by February 28.

The Resource Center will compile and analyze your responses and send the confidential results back to you. Your scores and findings remain confidential information, and will not be shared with anyone outside of your organization unless permission is granted in written form. The assessment results will include a total assessment score and a score for each of the six sections.

These scores can help you and your organization focus your efforts. Your Byways Specialist or Tribal Liaison can also recommend diagnostic strategies based on the outcome of the Byway Assessment tool.
