Help Define Needs And Shape Work Plan As A Resource Center Advisory Committee Member

America’s Byways Resource Center is currently soliciting interest for 9 positions on its Advisory Committee. These positions are open to byway leaders of nationally designated byways and State/Tribal byway coordinators. We are also seeking a representative from the tourism industry at the national and/or State level, from the public or private sector.

The America’s Byways Resource Center Advisory Committee is a small group, representative of the byway community, which provides feedback and guidance to the Resource Center on the development and implementation of its work plan. The committee plays a vital role in assisting Resource Center staff in planning and developing products and services to be provided under its cooperative agreement with the Federal Highway Administration.

In anticipation of the Federal Highway Administration’s request for a proposal for technical assistance, resources and training to be provided after the current cooperative agreement expires on August 31, 2010, we are seeking committee members to provide direct input into this proposal that will guide the efforts of America’s Byways Resource Center for the next 18 months.

Expectations of Advisory Committee members are as follows:

  • Provide constructive feedback and input to assist in the development and implementation of the Resource Center’s 18-month work plan.
  • Be available to attend two in-person meetings at the Resource Center offices in Duluth, Minnesota. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 25-26, 2010, in which the development of the Resource Center’s 18-month work plan will be addressed. The second meeting will take place in late fall 2010 or early spring 2011 to review the status of the work plan, evaluate progress and develop strategies for additional work plan items.
  • Participate in conference calls scheduled throughout the year, as needed, to receive updates and offer feedback on action items in the work plan.
  • Commit to a one- or two-year membership term.

The Resource Center will reimburse Advisory Commitee members for transportation and hotel expenses.

To express your interest in serving on the Advisory Committee, send an email to Michelle Johnson, Director, at mjohnson@byways.org. Please address the following in your email:

  1. What knowledge, skills, abilities and experience will you bring to the committee?
  2. How can we use your expertise to fulfill our mission, advance our goals, and improve the performance and delivery of services of America’s Byways Resource Center?

Please respond by May 6, 2010.
