New Architectural Exhibit at National Building Museum

A new multimedia exhibit, “Detour: Architecture and Design along 18 National Tourist Routes in Norway” is on view through May 25, 2009, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The structural designs featured in the exhibit are intriguing examples of architecture specifically designed to appear harmonious with the surrounding natural environment. They represent the creativity and ingenuity of designers and architects from around the world.

The rest areas and service facilities on display are part of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s Tourist Routes project; the exhibition is a collaboration between the project and the Foundation Norsk Form. The Norwegian Embassy collaborated with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to present the exhibit at the National Building Museum.

Other related events have been scheduled by the museum. Brad Cownover, Director of Conservation Services, Scenic America will participate in a panel discussion of scenic byways in the U.S. and Norway March 30. The Norwegian architects Tommie Wilhelmsen and Henning Kaland will also be panelists in the discussion. A complimentary film series is scheduled at the National Building Museum.
