Our Native Pathways: Byway Opportunities For Indian Tribes - August 12-13, 2008, Nashville, TN
The America’s Byways Resource Center will sponsor Our Native Pathways: Byway Opportunities for Indian Tribes, August 12-13, 2008, at the Wyndham Union Station Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The purpose of Our Native Pathways, funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is to introduce Tribes to the basics of the National Scenic Byways Program, byway program development, byway designation and successful approaches to sustaining a byway.
The meeting is designed for Tribes located in the East and South, including Tribal leaders, Tribal policy makers, transportation, economic development and cultural resources staff who are considering a byway program and designation on or near Indian reservations.
The primary themes integrated throughout the meeting are the building blocks upon which the Program is based: an overview of the National Scenic Byways Program; roles of key partners including Federal land management agencies, States and Tribes; and successful planning and communication at the grass roots level. Current Tribal byway coordinators will also provide insight to their experiences and discuss the benefits of byways.
Registration is free and travel assistance is available. To register or to learn more about Our Native Pathways, contact Scott Sufficool, Tribal Liaison, at 1-866-974-6403 or e-mail ssufficool@byways.org.
