Two Upcoming Courses Available From The National Center On Accessibility

The National Center on Accessibility has two open-registration training courses scheduled for the second half of 2008.

“Retrofitting for Accessibility” will be offered September 8-11 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The course provides education on Federal legislation and accessibility requirements as applied to park and recreation facilities and programs. Educational sessions will provide an understanding of the characteristics and needs of people with disabilities. The primary field work will be done within the boundaries of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“A Universal Approach to Interpretive Planning, Programs and Design” will take place December 8-11 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This training program focuses on methods and techniques for developing programs and exhibits that are accessible to people with disabilities. The course will also concentrate on the movement away from minimal accessibility standards and “specialized” design to the benefits of universal designs that can be utilized by people of all abilities.
